Which airport your Danville trip should use

This is the decision that matters most from the San Ramon Valley, and it is not always the obvious one. Oakland is usually the nearest of the three major airports to Danville. San Francisco generally means crossing the hills or a bridge, which makes the timing far more dependent on when you travel than on the distance. San Jose runs south down the I-680 corridor and is often better than people expect from this side of the valley.

Blackhawk and gated-community pickups

Blackhawk is a large gated community in Danville, and collecting from inside one is a different job from pulling up at a kerb. The practical points are worth settling at booking rather than at 5am:

• Gate access. Give the resident’s name and the gate you want the car to use. Without it the chauffeur waits at the entrance while you are waiting at the door, which is exactly the failure an early flight cannot absorb.
• The last leg is part of the journey. Reaching a specific house inside a large development takes real minutes after the car leaves the main road. It belongs in the schedule, not in the buffer.
• Event pickups. During club or plaza events the nearest approach is often closed off, so agree a meeting point in advance rather than assuming the usual one.
• Private driveways. Long or narrow approaches decide whether a larger vehicle can reach the door at all.

In this area there is a second consideration: a long private driveway or a narrow hillside lane can decide whether the largest vehicle can physically reach the door, so the pickup address is worth mentioning when the group is big.

• Pickup address, including the gate or community name where relevant.
• Date and time, and the flight number if the trip connects to an arrival or departure.
• Number of passengers, and how much luggage.
• Any additional stops, or whether the day is better booked hourly.
• Accessibility requirements, so boarding and vehicle choice are planned in advance.
